Settled back in Texas after living in New York for two years, I’ve started cultural communion with the hopes of delving into new modes of writing and reaffirming love of writing, which pulls me back into its orbit time and time again.

As a culture writer, I spent two years working at A.V. Club, with work published at Vulture and Letterboxd. I currently edit and write for the Austin-based Hyperreal Film Club, which hosts some of the best film programming in town. I’ll share my pieces from HFJ here, which will remain free for all subscribers.

This newsletter will feature essays on film, literature, society, and culture at large. I write from a feminist and humanist perspective, with the continuing belief that the modern landscape has left us more alone and fractured than ever. I’m unabashedly anti-fascist and anti-AI, and unwaveringly pro-labor and pro-art.

Welcome,

gabrielle s.
