Hello,
Thank you for making it this far. As this platform for my writing evolves over time it will hopefully become many things for you and I, so your support is appreciated.
This newsletter is not a personal blog meant for waxing on about my daily life and intimate feelings, but hopefully some of those will be expressed through different forms. I’ve spent enough time sharing every unfiltered thought I have for friends, acquaintances, and strangers online, and it’s only left a hollow feeling in my gut as I’ve drained myself of intimate sentiment for nothing more than droning eyes on a screen.
However, this newsletter is a venue for me to continually share my work as it moves from cultural essays to short stories to even more poetic structures. Ultimately, I want a space to challenge my own conventions on writing, and a reason to keep doing something I deeply love.
I’ve been a writer for a long time, but strictly in a journalistic sense. For a while, journalism offered plenty of safety and rules and repeatable form, until it became a tedious method of relaying “news” and creating a “brand” of myself. Well, not a brand representative of myself, but one that would ideally perform well on Twitter, so media execs would “ooh” and “ahh” at my marketable wit and ability to yammer on about anything. It’s been a year since I left a large media company drained of any admiration I had for writing and full of resentment for the structure at large. One full calendar year later, I’m ready to come back to it on my own terms, and I hope you’ll join me.
